Kentucky Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform

The KY Forum formally began in May of 1999 s part of the Kentucky Department of Education's Middle Level Initiative.  Modeled on the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Education, the Forum brings together representatives of various groups and individuals that share a concern for the continued improvement of education for young adolescents.  In addition to teachers, principals, parents, and district and state level administrators, and teacher educators, the Kentucky Forum is comprised of the following representatives:

  • Kentucky Middle School Association

  • Kentucky Secondary School Principals Association

  • Prichard Committee (a non-profit citizen's group committed to excellence in public education in Kentucky)

  • Collaborative for Teaching and Learning

  • Council on Post Secondary Education

  • Kentucky Educational Television

  • Kentucky Education Association

  • Kentucky Association for Gifted Education

  • Kentucky Association of Educational Supervisors

  • Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children

  • Education Professional Standards Board

  • Kentucky Equity Task Force

  • Southern Regional Education Board

  • Kentucky Association of School Counselors

  • Kentucky Association of School Councils

  • Kentucky Department of Education

  • Kentucky Parent/Teacher Association

The Forum and its sub-committees meet three to four times per year and focus on goals such as serving as the Advisory Board to the Center for Middle School Academic Achievement, and promoting education for young adolescents that is academically challenging, socially equitable, and developmentally appropriate.
